It’s that time of year again. Winter runs start Sunday 28th October, 9am outside the clubrooms and each Sunday thereafter. Suitable for all abilities and will probably include a cafe stop somewhere. Bring your mudguards please, drinks and a snack just in case. Nobody will be left behind and we will wait and assist with puncture repairs or other mechanicals. Just turn up and join in.
The AGM will be held at 1400hrs on Sunday 18th November 2012 at the clubrooms in Musselburgh.
The annual end of season Freewheeling and barbecue takes place on Sunday 11th November near Windymains on the B6371 south of Humbie. The Freewheeling for those that might be new to it is a bit of end of season fun, although some take it very seriously! No pedalling allowed and free wheel downhill and see how far you can get. Club Evening 10 mile TTs starting Wednesday 16th May. 1st rider off 7pm from just East of Wallyford R’bout on the A199 – Restricted to current and prospective club riders. MRCC open 25 TT Sunday 2nd September 2012 – details to follow later – Gala 25 course on the A7. This is where we will post up the training sessions, both inside and outdoors, that the club’s riders will be taking part in the 2012season. Currently (2011 into ’12) the turbo sessions have started – once a week, Tuesday 6:30pm. Also we hope to run a social / cafe-type ride, 4o miles or so, once per month where the race is NOT to be the fastest but to choose the best cake at the cafe which we will be stopping at. Club member Nick Stormonth passed away on 2nd September 2012 after his courageous battle against cancer aged 37. Nick raced with the club and would be seen regularly out on East Lothian’s roads eating up the miles. As recently as this summer Nick completed a mammoth trip to his beloved Italy where he and long time friend David Bayley completed the Milan – San Remo sportive, cycled the Stelvio pass and the Gavia amongst many more. A bitterly cold east wind, wet roads, mud and potholes greeted the 27 teams in this years MRCC Team Trial Trial around East Saltoun and Bolton. Thankfully the snow stayed away. Quickest team round the 24 miles were Drew Sharkey, Craig Dale and Dave Caesar one of two bicycleworks.com teams riding. Sunday 21st October on a beautiful sunny Scottish Borders morning at Stow. ‘Big Stow’ was the venue this year with a field of 40 riders taking to the steep slopes for what was also the ESCA hill climb championships. Dougie Kirkham was the sole representative from Musselburgh this year although a few others rode down to watch and provide support.
