Scottish Hill Climb Championships 2012

Sunday 21st October on a beautiful sunny Scottish Borders morning at Stow.  ‘Big Stow’ was the venue this year with a field of 40 riders taking to the steep slopes for what was also the ESCA hill climb championships.  Dougie Kirkham was the sole representative from Musselburgh this year although a few others rode down to watch and provide support.  Steven Lawley of the Bicycle Works was ESCA champ and Jennifer Taylor of West lothian Clarion the ladies champ.  Glasgow Couriers … Continue reading

Kingscavil Hill Climb – Sunday 14th October 2012

Derek Timmins and Dougie Kirkham represented the club at this closed road event out near Linlithgow.  Both rode a fixed gear, Derek a mammoth 48×19 and Dougie a measley 46×19.  There were one or two other fixed gear riders out as well on the 0.7 mile climb.  Derek was up in 2:57 and Dougie in 3:01.  80 odd riders turned out to race and were supported by a good crowd with cow bells and a piper at the finish.  An excellent … Continue reading

Skelly 50 TT Sat 28/07/12 – Alness

My 4th visit up to the Cromarty Firth for the Skelly cup 50 TT on the A9 course around Invergordon. This events starts at 4pm which is a bit better than the usual early morning TT starts. This year it was the day before the TTT champs in Fife, but still had 30 entries. I like this course for some reason, don’t know why, and the weather was fairly kind this year. Wind got up a bit on the final … Continue reading

Border Trophy 10′s 18th and 20th June – Kelso and Gala

The revived Border Trophy TT series took place on Monday 18th and Wednesday 20th June at Kelso and Galashiels respectively.  These are open events but times count towards the Border Trophy between the Kelso and Gala clubs.  They are hoping to extend the events to include other Border clubs and keep them as open events as well.  The kelso course was from Kelso to a dead turn at the far end of Birgham and return to Kelso.  23:41 for me … Continue reading

Fife CA 10 TT 27/05/12 – Results

Lovely warm sunny morning across in Ffe on the Freuchie 10 course.  Nice to race in the warmth for a change and I think this is my favourite 10 course, despite the various turns and rises – I like it:)  Another impressive ride from Rab Carson and I think that’s the 2nd 20 min 10 he’s produced on that course this year.  Next outing for me will be West Lothian Clarion’s 10 at Cambusbarron next Sunday 3rd June. 1 Robert Carson … Continue reading

Dundee 2 day stage race 19-20/05/12

Andy Matheson placed 14th on GC in the Dundee stage race over the weekend.  Looks like they had some welcome sunshine to keep them warm.  Andy was 38th in the TT prologue, his favourite discipline  then finishing 18th on stage 1 then 16th on stage 2.  Full results and links to some pics on Braveheart. http://www.braveheartfund.com/community/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=10429

SVTTA 10 TT – Cambusbarron 20/05/12

With the cancellation of our 10 on Saturday I was thankfull for a ride in the SVTTA 10 at Cambusbarron on Sunday.  Left the east in sunshine with it warming up a bit but at Cambusbarron it was overcast and 4 degrees.  This is always a fairly tough course on a relatively calm day but the cold made it harder to get going.  Sticky both ways and ended up with a 24:00 dead.  Didn’t hang around for the results as … Continue reading

Glasgow Couriers 10 TT 29/04/12

Bitterly cold Sunday morning with strong north east wind meant a hard return leg on the A78 Eglinton 10 course.  It was fairly quick to the turn but you just knew it was going to be hard  on the way back.  The fast guys were all down about a minute on recent times but a big field turned out.  Just Dougie from Musselburgh and Paul Anderson  Gala CC from our side of the country though.  Long way to go for a … Continue reading
