About

Musselburgh Road Cycling Club was formed in January 1936 by a breakaway group of 16 from the Musselburgh Clarion. After forming an alliance with other clubs during the war, the MRCC reformed again in its own right in January 1945. The club has a long and successful history of competitive cycling. Today, club members take part in track racing, road racing, time trials, cyclocross and mountain biking. The club rooms are based at the Tolbooth Town Hall on Musselburgh High Street.

I joined the club back in the seventies as a schoolboy, and have been involved  in many categories/ types of cycle events over the years from the domestic scene to riding internationally in my 20/30’s.

More recently, I enjoy exploring off road gravel trails around Scotland and also competing in the master classes in road and gravel events around the country.

Over the years I have held many positions within the club committee and enjoy seeing the club membership grow and prosper with a broad mix of cyclists from recreational to competitive.

Cycling, what a great activity/ sport to be involved in.

New to MRCC as a member and to the Committee, I started cycling 2 days before lockdown after giving up horses. sold my horse lorry and bought a bike! After attending a taster ride to encourage more females into cycling I joined the club to be able to cycle in groups with likeminded individuals. As well as outdoor cycling I really enjoy the indoor virtual cycling where I am part of a lady's team for a racing league and also ride with a mixed team. This keeps me busy in the winter months and helps keep me fit and as well as the leagues here are lots of virtual challenges such as pedalling up the Alpe to collect badges and prizes.

I started cycling in 2020 having been a keen rower for 8 years before that.

Joined the club in summer of 2022 and have never looked back.  A regular on the Sunday club runs and Tuesday night training sessions, I also help to promote ladies cycling as much as I can.

I keep myself fit over the winter by racing in a team for both Zwift Racing League and WTRL Team Time Trial.

A fan of long rides and challenging climbs but secretly motivated by cake stops. Particularly keen to promote cycling for women and encourage more female members to join the club.

Rejoined the club in April 2022 after being off the bike for 5 years, having originally joined in 2011.

Enjoy the Sunday club runs, catching up with other club members and do love a cafe stop.

It’s been great getting back into cycling and rejoining  the club and seeing how much it has progressed.

A relative latecomer to cycling back in 2015 when I decided that the knees just didn't like running anymore. I enjoy looking after and organising the Sunday "relaxed" rides, I mean what's not to like about a cafe stop? I'm handy with the spanners and like the science behind cycling, but my main driver is seeing the club's cyclists develop throughout the year. Strange non cycling fact - I shot Paolo Nutini

Having retired from a fairly undistinguished career in Sunday League football I took up cycling, primarily for commuting and the odd leisure ride. With COVID hitting along with the first lockdown I took to cycling and quickly began exploring my local area and increasing my mileage. In September 2020 once I’d built up what I thought was sufficient fitness levels I signed up and joined the club.

I’m a regular on the Sunday club runs although I tend to insist that there is at least one coffee stop.
